QR codes are everywhere. Here is how to scan them quickly on any device, plus easy fixes if the code will not scan on the first try.
iPhone: Use the built-in Camera
- Open Camera.
- Point at the QR code. Hold steady until a banner or link pops up.
- Tap the link to open it. If nothing appears, try moving closer and improving lighting.
Tip: In Settings → Camera, ensure “Scan QR Codes” is enabled.
Android: Camera or Quick Settings tile
- Open Camera and point at the code. A link should appear to tap.
- If not, swipe down for Quick Settings and look for a Scan QR tile.
- Some Samsung/Pixel phones also support scanning in the built-in Gallery/Photos app.
Laptop and desktop options
- Use your phone instead. It is fastest and most reliable.
- Or try a browser extension or a webcam scanning site. Ensure the code is well lit and in focus.
When a code will not scan
- Increase contrast: codes scan best when dark dots are on a light background.
- Get closer: fill more of the camera view and hold steady for a second.
- Improve lighting: avoid glare on glossy prints; try diffused light.
- Check the link: if you are unsure, open the URL preview first to verify it is safe.
